Child and Youth

2017 Child and Youth Programs (CYP) consist of four basic types of care: Child Development Centers (CDCs), Child Development Homes (CDHs), School-age Care (SAC) and Youth and Teen Programs. CYP staff have received extensive training for childcare and are required to maintain continuing education to ensure the most up to date childcare can be provided.  All child care programs are open to Active Duty Service members, DoD civilians and contractors. Fees are based on total family income and vary for full time care.

Give Parents a Break

Military families are subject to unique stressors associated with military life, such as deployments, remote tours of duty, extended working hours, recent transfer to the area, illness in the family, caring for a child with special needs or other circumstances/hardships. The Give Parents a Break (GPAB) program is designed to give family members a short break from parenting in order to help them deal with these types of stressful situations. This program is free for respite care referrals and $4 per hour for all other patrons.

Eligible patrons include all children 6 weeks to 5 years of age who are not yet in kindergarten. Give Parents a Break is offered two Saturdays each month at Child Development Center I. Register through CYP Online Services by 12 p.m. the preceding Friday. Weekend care is available through Child Development Homes. Call 202-404-1454 for more information.
